JEDDAH – Najran knocked Al-Ittihad out of the Crown Prince Cup by securing a quarterfinals berth with a 2-1 win Friday.
The win was the first for Najran over the Jeddah club in a decade. In other matches Al-Ansar defeated visiting team Al-Hazm 4-2 in extra-time, while Al-Ta’ee needed a shoot-out to edge host Al-Wehdah 6-5.
Congolese striker Depa scored both the goals for Najran - one two minutes before the break and the other in the 65th minute from the spot. Skipper Mohammad Noor scored for Ittihad from the spot after Sultan Al-Numari was brought down in the box.
The win secures Najran a meeting against Al-Ansar in the quarterfinals Wednesday.
Ittihad is now out of the fourth championship this season - AFC champion, Zain Saudi Professional League, Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Cup and Crown Prince Cup.
At Prince Mohammed Bin Abdul Aziz Stadium, Ansar won 4-2 over Hazm after the match was taken into extra-time.
Al-Ta’ee will play Al-Shabab in the quarterfinals Tuesday.
